Meet the resident: Spoznaj rezidenčno umetnico Hanno Stein

Welcome to the presentation of the new GuestRoomMaribor resident Hanna Stein. She is a resercher on Universety of Graz. Her topic of reserch is amateur film prodoctuon of Kino clubs in Yugoslavia. During her stay she will extend the reserch on Kino klub Maribor.
On the event she will present the topic Amateur film movement in (Post-)Yugoslavia and it's everyday (camera) politics.

In a short overview, smal-scale revolutionary moments of amateur film shall be discussed on the example of amateur film practices in the former Yugoslavia. It would be misleading to interpret all amateur films or amateur film practices ipso facto as oppositional and political by defining them too soon as opposition to professional practices. Still, it is important to recognize the specific freedom and intention of amateur film making to discover the revolutionary moments of filmmaking as an artistic as well as a social practices.

On the example of Kinoklub Zagreb in three historical and poltical contexts, she wants to show that the film amateurs were political actors, even though they did not perceive themselves as political and even took a clear apolitical position. Revolutionary and subversive moments can be discovered on technical, aesthetic, thematic and social level as she intends to show during the presentation and movie screening.
